Default Need Help

I am stuck as to what a sound is on my car, I could not pin point what exactly it was making a ticking noise, since my car had a really bad exhaust leak. Well I got a whole new exhaust setup finally, Pacesetter LTs, and True Duals, btw, the car sounds great.....well that is except the ticking noise it is still making. To me it sounds like a push rod, then my buddy said something about a dead lifter. My question is does a dead lifter make the same sound as a push rod would, the ticking noise? The tick is definetly coming frome the Right side of the engine, sounds like it is coming from the vavle cover area.

I know people with the LS1s have had push rod problems before, so if anyone here ever had a dead lifter, I am just wanting to know if it is a similar sound.

Thanks alot.

Mike

Sorry, should have said the egr is gone, there is a block off plate on the intake and I have the Race style Pacesetters. Sorry for the lack of info.

whether its a lifter or a pushrod, excessive valvetrain lash will cause the ticking noise. pull the valvecover and look for loose rockers or bent rods. if the rocker is loose, it could be because of a bad lifter.

yeah, but i think thats why, its because you dont have the EGR and you have the block off plates. If it was happening before then i dont know.
I wish i remembered how to explain it

Your prob sounds like mine. I have a thread under Lifter collapse $0.02 wanted. This might help you.

The general consensus seems that it's unlikely a lifter collapsed. It seems the stock lifters can take some horrendous abuse and be unharmed. I found from a very knowledgeable friend on LS1's that a bad lifter will also show itself with increased oil press, especially during acceleration. My oil press is 40-45 at idle and 55-65 at WOT. So, I'm personally ruling the lifter out in my case.

I feel your pain, as my probs not an exhaust leak. IF you are like me, the tick is muffled under the hood, but amplified by the header tubes on the side of the car by the fenderwell. Thinking it could be piston related, but I'm also going to pull my valve covers tomorrow and double check the hardened pushrods for straightness and the torque on the rockers (which should be 22ft/ lbs if using the stock ones).

Hope this helps

My oil pressure is exactly that, so ruling out the posibility of a collapsed lifter hopefully. I got up today and pulled the valve cover off the right side and found 7 seemingly straight push rods and the very back one where the noise was the greatest is a nice curved shape, pretty sure that would cause the noise. New Chromoly Comp Cams push rods are on order and hopefully this will take care of the problem. Push Rod
