cam+ daily driver = fun - bumming rides to work

(cam + daily driver )(tunning) = fun
(cam + daily driver )(tunning)^2 = lasting fun

edit: I dont actually know what im talking about. My lsx engine project isnt over yet. The above is true for an l98 though.

If something were to go wrong or if its too unbearbale there is no other option (well I suppose I could drive my gf's car). I really want a cam but am not sure if its just too much. Basically, I would like to open this thread up to people with cams in their daily driver vehicles. I am interested in how they like it and if they would do it again. Any input by anyone is welcome. Thanks.

I chose to go with an LS6 cam for my daily driver. Several people on this board and others are making 30-35rwhp with this cam alone through stock heads. It will also work with the LS6 springs. A whole set up (springs, cam) new costs $275 from one of our sponsers. The main reason I chose this cam was because with many of the other cams, it is recommended to replace the springs every 20,000-25,000 miles or so, which I will do in under a year. LS6 components are what come in the Z06 from the factory, in theory you should be good for atleast 100,000 miles. This cam also gives a completely stock idle.

Thank you all for your opinions, it looks like I will go ahead and go after that cam.

I trust that the tuning will be pretty good and make it a really fun car to drive. Once again, thank you all!

I just ordered TEA 5.3 stage 1.5 heads and a 224/228 .581/.588 114lsa cam from Brent at TEA. He told me that was good street mannered cam and said that he had found the 114 lsa was making the same hp but more tq at a lower rmp than the 112lsa.

Like some of the others I don't think that cam is very big, you shouldn't have to change your habits much if any. I drove a bigger cam 236 duration in Los Angeles traffic everyday and on the freeway which is very slow-if your going 35 at rush hour, your cruising fast. I didn't have any problems, mainly had to give more space between cars in front of me to let the car roll instead of surging at 5 mph-this was an untuned car as well and it drove fine. remember with that cam you will need to change springs pretty often which can be a hassle if you don't want to spend the money or time to do it. Thats the main reason I'm staying away from that cam, and of course the price-a GM hotcam or crane cam package can be had for around 400 bucks-slightly more for the hotcam compared to the crane, and never have to worry about springs again.

A 224 is nothing once properly tuned. But, GET A CONVERTER FIRST.
