Default Iron block alternator bracket

Okay, getting close to having my 402 ready to put in.

Obviously, I need to have some holes punched for the alternator bracket in the new block.
Has anyone done this themselves?? Or did you guys take it to a machine shop.

It looks like the center bolt of the bracket wouldn't be able to be punched, is this right??

Just punch a dimple in the block where the boss is located. Drill it out nice and slow, then tap it for the factory size bolt. Takes 15-30 minutes.

The center bolt won't be used. Just drill n' tap the upper hole and you're all set. Heck, I didn't even do that, and my alt. hasn't moved I just have the one front bolt and the bracket on the back

What tools do I need for this? Never done it before.

You will just need a good drill, a really good bit that is just slightly smaller than the tap which is a metric (M10 x 1.50).

-Insert the bolt for the hole you do have and snug it with you fingers so the bracket is where you want it
-Use a punch to mark where to drill
-Remove bracket
-Drill out and tap using plenty WD40
-Blow out or use a bristle brush or similar
-Ready to go!
