Default Question about reinserting lifters.

I've had some lifters out of my car for a few days while doing the cam swap (had to pull the head b/c I had a lifter fall).

My question is do I need to do anything special to them before I put them back in the block? I think i remember someone saying your supposed to soak new lifters in oil over night or something??? Do I need to do this or will they be fine?

I dont think thats a must. Its an old wise tail. Alot of people do it and I dont think it would hurty anything except maybe give you some trouble with bleeddown while trying to tighten your rockers.

I would just putt hem back in and let them pump up on their own.

So you don't think it'd cause any problems. I mean i can understand the need to soak in oil if they were bone dry. But they've been covered in oil for the past 67,000 miles ... lol

If they were covered earlier there would still be enough oil residue, but I would cover them once again for good measure...

According to the CompCam instructions, you should clean them with parts cleaner then let them soak overnight in oil. It can't hurt...

I for one suppose the fact remains, they should be soaked.

Comp says to use parts cleaner because the new comp lifters have a coating on them from the factory.

I'll be doing something along the lines of that today. I had a few good contacts with some experienced shops and know they can do it quickly indeed. With some help from a few buddies we may inspect the springs also.

I did what comp recommends. Soak them in mineral spirits over night to remove the factory coating, then soak em in motor oil. In your case, you are probably fine. Just soak em as you are getting ready to drop them in.
