Default cleaning used heads?

Hey everyone. I just got a set of Absolute Speed 5.3 heads from a buddy, used. It's ganna be a few months before I install them on my car, and I want to clean them up a little bit so they are as clean as possable when I install them. I was thinkng about using brake cleaner to clean the heads, then putting a little Mobil 1 on the springs to protect them while they sit. Does anyone have any input on using brake cleaner and oil? Thanks.

I used brake parts cleaner....and green scratch pads......the pads work awesome....I used them on my block too, and all the remaining gasket material came off.....

Carb blast works the best and is easiest on your heads. Its really good just to media blast them, but you will need to wash afterwords. If you take carb blast and saturate the heads, then let them site for about 10 minutes, you can come back and just blow them right out. The exhaust and combustion chamber take alittle more than the intake, but it still works just fine, and you dont even need to dissassemble this way.

Thanks for the replies. Anyone else have any thoughts on it? What exactly should I oil after I clean them?

Good to see the heads are going to a good use! Use brake cleaner and a scotch brite pad for the combustion chambers and just wipe the rest of the head off. Put some oil on the vavle seals just to be safe.

Ha, what's up man. It just took me 1.5 hours to clean 1/4 of 1 head. I'm starting to think just a good whipe-down, rinse and oil will be fine!
