Has Anyone Use The Clevite 77 Main Bearing( Part# Ms-2199 P).
Are They Any Good?

 

I'm not sure what the P is. I used MS 2199H. I have always used Clevitte 77 in race motors and they have been great. My motor machine shop guy says they are the best and he has been building small block and big block motors for 30 years.

 

Since we are on the issue of clevite bearings, I just replaced my rod bearings and splerged for the "Clevite" ones that were 5.99 a set. However when I got them they came in a Hi-Tech box! Does anyone know what is up with that?

 

The "P" bearing should be used on cast or steel crankshafts. The "H" bearing should only be used on steel cranks such as 4340. It is because of the bearing hardness. That is my input but everyone has their own.

 

So By Me Using The P Its Ok, Right

 

P sounds good, H is a hard racing bearing made for extreme use. The P will probably be easier on the crank, more like an OEM. More wear on the bearing and less on the crank. Bearings are made to be soft enough to absorb contamination and not scratch the crank. With the H you are taking more of a chance with the crank. I use the hard bearing because I am road racnig every month and changing the oil often. If this is a street car with an occasional drag strip blast, go with P.
