Default ATI Damper Installation

I picked up the ATI Damper to install when I do my cam. Got a great deal on it at Corvettes at Carlisle. According to the instruction sheet, since it now comes standard with the steel hub, I am supposed to grease the crank snout prior to installation and then I have to measure and hone the internal diameter of the damper.

Doesn't sound right at all. Has anyone installed one of these? It is part # 917278.

I boiled mine and used one of those compressed air cans upside down to freeze the crank and it went right on. No issues for two years now.

I went through the instructions several times, and then spoke with ATI.

You need to measure the crank snout to four decimal places and then hone the internal diameter of the ATI hub so there is 0.001" interference fit maximum. Thay may be why you had a hard time installing.

Ever try and get it off?

heat the hub in boiling water for five minutes and cool down the crank snout, apply a small amount of trans gel to snout and tighten nut on your balancer installation tool. installed several this way, no issues
