knock sensor

what happenes when a knock sensor goes out? ive herd that a ticking noise can mean its out. How hard is it to change and it is worth taking out to see if its corroded(sp?)

ses light only - no ticking. rip of intake and swap in 2 new sensors... use high temp silcone to seal valley cover wires from car wash water.....
