Question VHP/Crane Cams Spring tool?

Will the VHP/Crane Cams Spring tool work on Comp 987 springs?

The 987 dual springs are 1.43” O.D. so there will be .13” less room between the springs than with other dual valve springs which are 1.29” – 1.30”O.D.

Thanks

John

Just make you one. Thats what I did. Do a search on the Larry tool. Its worked just fine so far. Not to long ago someone on here posted pics of a new tool that would do two springs at once. That would be the way to go.

That is good info. Now if I knew the distance from the center of the exhaust valve to the center of the intake valve then I would be set.

I just installed my VHP/Crane springs with this tool a few days ago, as I remember it was fairly close with the Crane's, not sure you will make it with the larger diameter. Call Joe or Roger Vinci and verify for sure.

Dang! Not what I wanted to hear. What spring tool did you use to remove the 1.43 springs?

So that puller was able to compress the dual valve springs?

Yes, it did... if you get the one with longer hooks, it will reach into both springs.

i wouldn't try to use that on a f-body though. cylinders 7 and 8 are under the cowl. most likely too tall and will hit the cowl. another question i have is why such large springs? does the G5X1 need that much spring?

No the G5X1 does not need that much spring but the Comp. 987 dual springs are what came on my TEA heads so that is what I used.
The heads/springs only have about 3,500 miles on them but as part of regular maintenance wanted to pull a few springs and have them tested.

I hate that I just bought a spring tool that I will not be able to use.

depends on where it actually hits the tool, you could grind down where the spring hits.
