Oil pump is a great idea(make sure to get an o ring!), I went to patriot performance dual valve spring kit, and harden pushrods stock length(7.400). FM14 is slightly bigger than the FM13, idleas alittle rougher, and has a higher powerband. Look at my sig for numbers.

I also went with a double roller timing chain.

F14 is considered a big cam.

You can save money and just go with the LS2 timing chain. It's strong enough for the cam, and lets of a headache compared to double roller timing chains.

Yea, just do the ls2 timing chain. I've put 2 cams in in the past month (one in my car, one in a buddies) and used the ls2 timing chain in both cars. Its beefier than the stock chain, and only costs like 35 bucks shipped. I'd run the PP Golds w/ the FM14.

I'd say the FM14 is considered the upperend of a moderate cam. Big cams: TRex, Magic Stick, TSP Texas Giant, G5x3/4 ... those are big cams

No, ls2 timing chain works w/ the stock cam/crank gears, and you don't have to worry about the clearance problems that the double rollers cause.

While were on the 14 ... anybody know the difference in the peak rpm's b/w the 112 and 114 LSA's on the FM14?

spun a bearing. Most likely because I was beating the ***** off my car ever since I installed the cam earlier this summer, and I'm guessing bouncing off the 6800 redline, as many times as I did, wasn't a good idea Theres a thread about my engine if you want to search.

I will say this again for the wise poeple (since it usualy falls on deph ears):

The stock block is not made to handle huge cams with reliability. Do so at your own risk and be aware that it will blow sooner or later.
You want big power, then build the shortblock to handle it (forged) with proper rod bolts.

In all fairness ... the F13 isn't much smaller than the F14, and doesn't make that much less hp. I've got friends that run G5x2's and cams in that range w/ stock bottoms w/o a problem.

freakynipples69 said that he had spun it to bounced it off his redline ... anytime u hit the limiter it puts ALOT of stress on your engine. Not to mention that most cars don't see redline much. My friends say I beat the hell outa my car, and my car has only seen above 3500 on about 5 times since my cam was installed about a month and a half ago, and alot of those were just showing friends what it felt like. So normally will probly be less than that.

f13 would be best for me cause of the power range and my 3800 converter,,, nut i read putting a 228 or bigger in your car you start losing hp?

Longer term, a cam with a power range with shifts at 6600.
i would say in the 230> 232 intake duration range and lifts of .600 max

The F13 is a better street choice for it's idle and driving manners. If you stick to 6600 shifting, then yes.
Point is those cams make power up high and one usualy benefit from them by reving higher 6800>7000.
And that is the range where problems occur.
Also, once you go into that range, you need to upgrade the lifters, which means pulling your heads.
So, why have such a big cam if you can achieve the same results bu having a smaller one and just using thinner gasket to bump your compression.
I would go with a FM11, .045 Cometic, Comp 850-16 lifters, mill to get as close to 11.0:1 SCR without flycutting and bingo, a nice reliable power making combo. how much is the extra is all that? < than $500 ( milling, gaskets and lifters).

Using this technique i've got 400 rwhp combos with tiny 224 cams instead of monsters making the same power. (A4 mind you)

well i dont plan on changing the lifters at all for awhile.... i just wantto be able to get my top end back cause the 3800stall is all below and i just want to change the springs and pushrods and oil pump of corse and ls2 chain... so i dunno if the f13 would be to big for that
