Who built your 408?
I was lookin at a friend of mine's VJ the other day, looks llike a quality piece, just most likely going to have to cut the cowl, even with a flange style TB.
Now the gmpp can be fit w/o cutting, there were pictures posted a few days ago...
Elite_hot_rod, not everyone has the tools/time/ability to build a motor. I feel comfortable putting a motor together, (helped on a couple) but paying for machine work, balancing, etc can sometimes outweigh the price of a shortblock from some vendors.
I've seen some prices on HPEs 408s that a few guys on here have, and they are cheap(as far as a 408 goes), and I doubt much could be saved by building compared to buying... and waranty helps too...
The A/F went rich I found out because the COT (cat over temp protection) was kicking in and sent my A/F to 11.9:1. The new rear is in and I will be ready for Thursday night. I built this motor and like previously stated, save your money and put good internals in it. My crank and rods are Lunati and I have Diamond pistons. There isn't a dyno close to me so I don;t have any dyno numbers, track times will have to do for now. That is what really matters to me anyway.
I am more concerned if there is any performance difference between the two.
Oh and TSP built my motor. Very reasonable price and used quality parts throughout
made 550/515 with a 'small' 246/250 cam and 1 7/8 headers. heads I got for $1000 from cylinderheadspecialties
made 545/535 with 1 3/4 headers

I built Mark's 408 motor
I have built a 408 and a 410 for myself.

I'd rather have +20tq and -5 hp than the other way around.
