used heads

I was wondering what do I need to check if i want to buy some used heads. Do you think it's possible to tell from pictures if the heads are damaged? I don't really know anything about heads except that new they are pretty pricy..

Basically, should I save money to get new ones or can I get good deals with used ones?

well I see everybody is happy with patriots, so I'm looking at theirs 59cc LS6 package with cam etc at the moment but I'm still considering other ones too..

I don't really care about maximum hp, I prefer something that last a littler longer.
