Oil pump??

Oil pump?? i am wanting to change my oil pump since its a 98 and all, the pressure stays good until it gets really hot outside and ive been driving for awhile then it drops to about 25 psi. i want to get a LS6 oil pump but dont know how much it would cost to install it, i dont want to do this job myself since you have to remove so much and reset the teeth on the timing chain which i know nothing about. so all in all my question is how much would it cost me to get a new pump installed?? and should i get a ported or unported oil pump, i heard the ported ones are good but only for highly modded cars.
Unless you're having issues with the pump, I don't know why you'd want to change it.
The labor will not be cheap because you've got to take the crank pully off (a bitch), the timing cover, and timing chain, then button it all back up.
This is the same labor as a cam swap! If you're going to do it, save up for a cam and underdrive crank pulley as that has to come off anyway.
I'm working on my H/C GTO and didn't upgrade the oil pump (although ours are LS6/LS2 pumps).
If you are going to upgrade the pump though, go with a blueprinted (ported) pump...don't think you can have too much oil flow...they're recomended for modded engines because those require the addition flow/pressure.

I just recently changed my oil pump to a ported TSP pump.The pressuere never goes below 45 to 50. LS1howto.com has very good detailed instructions. And you can get allot of help here if you decide to install it your self.I had around 59,998, miles on the car and when i changed my oil pump Seal it was slightly damaged there was a small cut in it.
If you're getting 25psi at hot idle and if it gets to around 40-50 driving around, that's ok. It's low for an LS1, but it's enough, and certainly won't hurt anything. My 99 with 88k miles never goes below 40psi at idle, gets 55-60 driving around warm, and 65+ WOT on the stock pump. I use Castrol German Syntec 0W30.

so basically just hold off until i can get a cam, underdrive pulley and the ported pump all together before i change it, sounds good to me i can always wait i mean as long as my pump right now isnt going to hurt my engine. i guess i will save up to do the whole thing like you guys say.
