Default H/C driveability.....no problem!!

For anyone (like me) who's worried about daily driver issues with a heads/cam package. Don't worry.

Here's my initial take on my heads/cam (finished installing today at noon).

For driveability, it drives just like stock under 2k rpms. No surging or bucking. Maybe a hint less power under 2k, but nothing noticeable.

Idle is completely fine. It's slightly rougher than stock, but not enough to bother you. Set at 850 rpm

And once you hit 4k rpms.......

Tires just started roasting from 3k up to 6500.

I'm quite satisfied so far.

TEA stage 1.5 5.3 heads. unmilled.
cometic .040 gasket
7.4 chromoly hardened pushrods
Comp 220/224 .581 lift 114 lsa +2

More tuning to come, but it ran pretty well on my previous tune. I did have to pull some timing up top (about 2 degrees to 25) and about 3-4 down low to prevent KR. But, at 11.3 to 1 compression, I figured I would have to.

Sounds sweet man, glad you like your set-up. I'm still planning my set-up (and saving) for when I get my LS1. I've been stuck between FI and head/cam, but if driveability isn't an issue and I can get 420+rwhp with a head/cam set-up then I'll go that route. What is your gas mileage like and what track numbers do you expect?

Well.... still too soon to tell on fuel economy, but I'll update when I know. From what I've heard, fuel economy shouldn't change much if any. The increased compression should help. I'd bet that it'll be better than a FI route. Especially considering that stock injectors are fine for my setup, while you need much bigger ones for FI.

Track numbers? I dunno, on street tires, probably mid 12s at 112+. Hard to say. I'm definitely running it at the track when it cools down a little more in the winter.

I will say my milage dropped signifigantly. (sp?) Now I'm lucky to get 190 miles per tank, although that is all in town driving..and I don't have good control of my right foot since I did all this to the car
