Default ping problems....fuel?

i have been having a slight ping to my engine. have checked everything. then i started thinking....this didnt start till a few weeks back when this little fuel crunch started. curious if oil co.'s have cut a corner or two with the octane additives. any one else had a problem? going to try a octane booster to see if it changes any. any suggestions on a quality boost or is it just a waste of money???
