Dan................If my prob is the rockers what is a good set of aftermarket rockers? 1.85? Which brand? Stupid question, but you mean a magnetic drainplug on the oil pan?

Yes, magnetic oil drain plug, and no, I would not bother w/ aftermarket rockers..

98% of the folks on this forum are using the stock 1.7 rockers.. They are very light weight, and w/ the exception of the bearing issue, fairly reliable.

Others here can recommend aftermarket roller rockers.. But I'll tell you one of my fellow Z06 owners put on 1.8 rockers (he broke a stock valve spring), and actually lost a few HP. We are hoping the dyno results were due to the weather, but we may never know..

Thanks, Dan I know a friend that put the expensive roller tip rockers on his car and he still has several good stock rockers left. I will try that, however last time I changed the oil(2 weeks ago) there were not any shavings on the drain plug. I think that my plug has a small magnet on it. Is there a magnet in the oil pan that I could look at? Still wandering if I have a lifter prob. I might have just found a problem with the rockers that I did not know about.

Search around here, you'll see several posts w/ pics of roller bearings from stock rockers that were captured by the mag. drain plug.

You say you had side-to-side play in a few rockers, then you may have found the problem. I would think a rocker w/ missing bearings would be easy to detect with them off the car.

They are going to have a little side to side play. Mine move enough to see the movement when you look at that half moon shaped rod thing that you can see on either side of the rocker arm, and they click when i move them back and forth. And also when that valve is closed(i think, maybe open) they will move back and forth.

I maybe wrong here, if so someone chime in.

Your right I don't have a rocker with missing bearings, however the rockers do have excessive side to side movement. I will have to wait untill this weekend to see if puting the good rockers on will make the noise that I am hearing go away. I am in college and this week has been a killer. I am not really hopeful that this will fix the noise. I got a cylinder #2 misfire on the predator programmer. I will have to put it on a better computer this weekend. I had a mechanic tell me that it could be a lifter sticking(whatever that means). I don't look forward to taking a head off.
