Default question about 383

im no expert at building motors and i got to wondering, im going to want more cubes down the road but i doubt being able to purchase a 408. it is possible to "transform" the current 346 to say, a 383, from what i have read, i am pretty sure i will need a new crank but its a little fuzzy, so what would it take.
also, what would it benefit hp/tq wise, and of coarse, cost?

thx a bunch

You'll need a 383 forged assembly (4.00") crank, usualy with 6.125 rods and piston/rings

Some shops will make this for under 4K and the same can be done with a 408.
408 can make more power but will add another 92 lbs to your front end.
If you are looking at a 450rwhp setup, I would prefer 383, higher, then 408 is the way to go.
Also 408 will require bigger heads (stage 3) while a 383 will do fine on a stage 2/2.5

Yes, you can use your block, just make sure you take it to a reputable machine shop for the work. Most Performance shops will take your block as a core and use one that has been prepped already or they can use your's as well. The shop that built my 383 gave me my chioce.
