Does this make installing the balancer any easier?

probably not much different from just getting some threaded rod, a washer and a nut. This tool just works on lots of different engines. It's very similar to the ones you can rent from your local auto parts store.

That's basically what I did, cost was around $15. Got rod from McMaster-Carr.

I had one it did not have an LS1 size in the kit.Unless they have updated it since.
