Default LS2 Timing chain only vs. set

Being that the timing chain is the main item to wear I would like to know if there is another reason to order an entire set vs. just ordering an LS2 chain and reusing my stock LS1 timing gears? Thanks for any and all help.

Just get the chain and save your money.

Unless high mileage or you see something on the sprockets that would question their re-installation only the chain would be required in my opinion. The service manual states to inspect the sprockets for wear or damage.

I reused the stock gears. Just buy the timing chain, and as long as the sprockets look good(i don't see why they wouldn't), just replace the chain.

I'm just going to change the chain then to the LS2 replacement. Cheap $30 replacement.

I just did the chain.

I don't think the LS1 timing chain is even available for purchase anymore. That's a good thing though (it's thinner)
