Default Guys that Copper sprayed Cometics......

How much did you spray on them, as in how many coats with how much coverage. Also, do you let the dry completely before installing, let them tack, or wet? I'm putting them on in the AM and trying to get the car going this weekend! Any input is appreciated.

John

If you must put it on, a light skim coat is all that is needed. Let it tack up, then install them. To much and not dry enough and the silicon could roll over into the water passage holes, which are small on the cometics, and block them off. If you have brand new surfaces on your heads and short block, which it looks like both are new from your sig., I would install them dry. I removed the heads from an assemballed shortblock I once purchased and the gaskets were heavily sprayed and not allowed to dry. All the water passages were clogged with silicon. Luckily I removed the heads for inspection. The gaskets have a layer of viton on them for sealing. as long as the surfaces are correctly prepped and the TQ procedure is correct, you shouldn't have any trouble.

Good Luck,
Same here, but only on reused gaskets. Brand new, I didn't coat them.

Light sheen, put on tacky.

light mist spray on new gaskets, no problem with reuse. use cometics on 6 liter wet intercooled supercharged marine packages, heavy tack, no leaks yet.

On my .040 cometics, I sprayed them till they were an even copper color, then put them on. No leaks. No retorquing.

I did it as if I were spray painting them, even coat.
