Default Rear main seal.. Trick to get t on?

Trying to put a new rear main seal in.. If does not want to fit over the back of the crank.. Do I need a special tool? Is there a trick to it?

Yes, there is a special GM tool.. Others will no doubt provide details, or possibly an alternative to the factory method.

I figured such.. I was trying to get the tranny hung tonight. That sux!!

Any other way would be greatly appreciated.

Mine went on with a little effort. I just had to start one end then work the rest in with a screwdriver.

You don't need the special tool, just alot of patients. Don't use lube on the seal lip or the crankshaft surface.

Thats what I did. I got half of it on, then the rest I used a small flat head to work it on there. Just be easy with it, you dont want to tear it with the screwdriver.

One last comment.. This is (one of) the seals you don't want to botch during the install, considering you could ruin the clutch disc (with oil contamination) or have a sh*t load of work to take it all a part to do it right the second time.

Someone else mentioned the way they do it. Remove the white plastic ring. Take aprox a .011 feeler guage and go around the back of the crank with it until it goes on.
