Question tools to mildly touch up heads

Can I use a dremel or something to touch up the intake and exhaust ports on my heads?? i just got my ls6 heads in and wanna smooth out the ports.

You'll be there all year with the average little dremel. If you don't have an air compressor to power a normal die grinder, Dremel does make a 1/4" drive die grinder with a remote motor though. Most stores like Lowes don't stock it but it's probably available. You'll want a 4-6" long mandrel for some sand rolls to really polish that thing up. Lotsa machine tooling supply stores carry this stuff and some welding supply shops.

How much material can you safely remove? Can you open it up right to the size of the header flange opening?

Don't open the exhaust ports to the header flange, it messes up the flow charecteristics of the exhaust gas.
