My F11 has the SM noise but is noticable mostly on a off throttle coast in gear at 2K-3K.Very slight at idle. I have stock heads/TI retainers/ and 918's. Also have HS rockers. They made abosutely no difference as far as the noise. But it makes great #'s and runs great.

LMAO

And for the record my 244/248 .635/.627 sounds pretty noisy. But hey, what do you expect with lift like that.

I also have a blown sewingmachine that likes to chew on lifters.

So far it looks like we're at 8 sewing machines, 3 quiet, 3 blowers and 1 tittie lol
I've never measured one but it helped on my XE-R grind.

Futral are Cam Motion.

In general the higher the lift, the smaller the base circle.

What length pushrods are you supposed to use on a stock motor? I am running the stock push rods and its noisy as hell.

F13 here and the only time I hear the sewing machine noise is cruising along at around 1500-2500 rpm. Can't hear it during acceleration or during idle.

Some "sewing machine" noice from my TR224, but it's probably the dual valve springs on the MTI 2E heads on there.

I've got a Comp 230/236 .598/.610 on a 112 lsa and it makes a bit of racket. I also run Comp 921's and I think the combination is noisy but safer than leser springs.

I've tried a number of different cam/pushrod/rocker/lifter combinations and even replaced my shortblock. What I haven't changed is my springs and heads. I'd like to know what heads, springs, and lifters people are using. I think it lies in there somewhere. Is anyone using Morel lifters and getting noise?

Most/all aftermarket cams have a smaller base circle than stock. Technically you should make up the difference with a longer pushrod to keep preload correct. However all you see is 7.40 and some 7.35 PR's(for the milled head guys) on the market. Anything else is a custom length. You would think that the aftermarket cam people would make and include in their cam install kits the correct PR for the base circle of their cam, but they don't.

PREDATOR-Z ...It makes sense that the longer PR would quiet things down by bringing preload back where it should be.Where did you get your 7.425 PR's and about how much $ were they?

Combined with my Crane roller rockers, my Futral/Cam Motion cam is relatively quiet.

1. Rapid Motorsports Stage II LS1 heads
2. Crane dual valve springs
3. Stock lifters

Why are you worried about valvetrain noise with that stereo system?! Crank it up till the noise goes away!

All three cams, Comp 224 on XER lobes, F11, and F13 all sound about the same. It sounds like the sewing machine effect. I had TEA's 5.7's milled .030 for the 224 and F11. Patriot Performance "LS6 Style" for the F11 and F13. All sounded about the same. Now when I had the Fast 78mm it was a lot more noticable.

Thanks. Looks like they're giving us more PR options these days and at a reasonable price too. It's been awhile since I've shopped for PR's

Exactly what I do! But, I had a respected tuner tell me this and it seems that most people who say their valvetrain is "relatively" quiet are using the stock lifters or Morel lifters as opposed to the Comp 850's or R's. This tuner complained about that the Comp lifters bleed down too much. Man, I'd hate to pull the heads again...

"Is anyone using Morel lifters and getting noise?"

Yes, I am. However my current preload is .075 and should be at .030. Running a 7.350 PR, 227/231 cam stock base circle ( 1.55 ) and AFR 205's milled .018.

Winter project.

Also FWIW, when I had Crane 1.8's on it was DEAD silent.

So it can be made silent; get the preload correct.
