Can you let me know total lift on your cam?
Also, please let me know if you have bushed lifter bores.

I think my new cam might be right on the edge of loosing oil presure and want to compare to some others. Thanks in advance.


Back round of why I am looking for this info.

I bought these lifters used and was told they needed to be used with a cam having a 1.40" base circle. They were used with a cam having .646 lift and kept oil pressure. If my math is correct, .646 lift the max base circle would be 1.402 assuming a 2.162 journal and that would be lobe to bearing so 1.39-1.400 would just slide in.

The seller sold them to me after trying them with another cam having a 1.31" base. Oil pressure dropped to 7lbs hot idle. So he pulled them out and went with another solid lifter.

Now, according to Crane, they will work with a cam up to .700 lift. If my math is right again .700 lift brings us to a max base of 1.338" just coming to lobe to bearing.

The cam I ordered I knew would be right on the edge of the 1.40" base. .652 lift brings max circle to 1.395.. I was ok with trying it if they could get it in the 1.385-1.39 range. It came in at 1.355" base.

If the Cranes will realy work to .700 lift, that would give me .017" in my favor. What do you guys think?


My formula for Max base:
2.162/2 = 1.081
1.081-.412 = .669 (.412 cam lift = .700 lift with a 1.7 rocker)
.669*2 = 1.338 base circle

Updates as I have more info to share..

Talked to Crane early this morning. There are 2 different solid lifter part numbers 10510-16 and 144510-16. I asked how they could be identified. From the center of the pin that holds the roller in to the bottom of the top relief the messurements are the following:

10510-16 = 1.068"
144510-16 = 1.240"

Now, why is this relivant?

According to Crane, GM changed the oil galleries sometime in 2000. They don't know when exactly and don't have any serial numbers ect, but the original 10510-16's no longer worked in the later 2000 model block. The lifter would drop down to far if the base on your cam was not big enough, hense the loss of oil pressure.

I have confirmed I have the early style 10510-16's and my block is what I believe to be the 6th month of 97 (Marking under the water pump drivers side). I called Crane back just now and they said the 10510-16 will be good to .700 lift with a 1.7 rocker in a early 00 down to the first year 97.

I guess I'll give it a go at some point when the car is ready to run.
