Default Cam differences

what would be the difference between:
232/230 .580"/.580" 110 LSA
226/226 .585"/.585" 112 LSA

what would be the advantages of choosing one over the other?
i read through the Cam sticky but the math was getting to me. if someone wants to help me out with that too, im game.

Assuming similar lobe profiles (a big IF here):
cam 1 has the potential to make significantly more power with the right supporting mods, but will require a very careful tune to achieve good drivability. Cam 2 will have good power and be easier to tune.

well the dur really has alot more to do with the power band than the lift does. i mean really what is .005" and how long is is actually open that much. the 226 will have a bit more low end and be better with an auto on the street( with a little tighter converter) but you could run the 232 with a big convert and do some serious runing around town. i dont know if you are using an A4 or M6. the 232 will sound nasty at idle and really scream up top. i mean HARD. you will lose a little low end and will need some serious tuning with it on the 110 lsa. if its an auto with a 110 you will need a big stall and a really good tune. if you get it on a 112lsa it will prob be better, but i am not sure really what you plan to do with this beast.

well, i was looking at the different Patriot head/cam kits and they had the 5.3 heads with each cam and the LS6 heads with each cam. i was hoping one of these kits would net me close to around 450hp with headers/intake, the ususal stuff. I just want something that has really good low-end, i'm not really worried about top b/c that can always be fixed with a 150 shot. i also always read where for the auto, a larger cam NEEDS a tune, why is that?

Take at look at us www.PortPros.com we do custom cylinder heads, cams and can tune your computer to maximize your cam and head package.
We build our heads one set at a time to order, no heads setting on the shelf waiting to be shipped. We truly custom port and machine all of our heads for your individual car and application.
I can get you 450 to 500HP with our heads and cam and we will tune your computer so all you have to do is change them out and go! Send me all the mods you've done or are going to do with your heads and cam. I'll put a package together for you. PortPros@sbcglobal.net.
Thanks,
Harold

well if you want really good low end, then keep the duration moderate and LSA low. A 224/228 110 on 108 ICL might be an option with the spray.

The 110LSA will give him more low end than if the cam was on a 112 or 114.

which heads would be better for the 232/230 .580"/.580" 110 LSA?
The 5.3s or the LS6s?

You buy the heads that match your goals.

Then get the camshaft designed to maximize the package.

The proper way to do things!

well, i am still looking into this
the car is a M6, deal went bad on the A4 (wanted a manual anyway!)
Im about 90% sure on the heads i want.
LS6 style with 2.02"/1.57" with 59cc combustion chambers.
The heads are still going to have 1.7 rockers. I just need to figure out what kind of cam i want!!!
I'm still looking to put down a good torque curve. I know the 110lsa is going to have a mean choppy sounding idle, and more low end, right?
But with being a M6, i should go with the 112lsa for more top end b/c the gearing will stay with it right?
My goals are mainly a dd that i can race on the weekends with a hwy run every now and then

well i am running a 228/232 on a 112 everyday and its my only car right now. i drive back and fourth from school regually (120 miles one way) it lopes a lot and runs good. i need some heads still lope is all about overlap not just LSA cause a 244 dur on a 115 will lope a hell of a lot more than a 218 on a 110 lsa. the more lope you want then the more over lap you want and vice versa. its about both duration and lsa. lope is when both the intake and exhaust valves are open at the same time hence "overlap" just my .02

I think this thread has more to do with those being the two prepackaged cams offered from Patriot than anything else. There are so many other options. Expand your horizons.
