Default Question regaurding more cubes with rebuild

Hello. Well i plan on going FI here in the future. I am pretty set on a nice front mount turbo kit. I plan on running about 6-8 psi o nthe stock block and what not. Than i know FI is addictive and ill want to up the boost. I got a quote of $6 to pull my engine, forge bottom end, install new cam, rebuild/install it in car and tune it. Now what if i want some more cubes too? Is it possible to like get my stock ls1 block bored out to a 383 so i can have some more cubes or how does this work and whats a relative extra cost to upgrade to bore my block to a 383? Thanks

you could get a stroker crank, but you can't bore out the aluminum block; only clean it up a tiny bit. A 4" crank with stock bore would give you your 382

for that much bore, you would have to go sleeved, i believe. A cast iron bored 30 over will come out to about a 369-370, and i think you can go a little bit more than that, if you wanna get real wild with it.

Well i was jsut curious how easy it is to jsut get more cubes from building my motor. What is about the max i can go before it starts getting crazy, unreliable, and a ton of cash. What approx price will it cost to get to this max CI without going crazy? Thanks

Why not check the sponsors. Theres a few with 402 aluminum blocks from 3800-4200 or so. The iron blocks are even cheaper.

Yea well thats for the short block. 402 short blocks are rouglhly 4-5 grand ish ive found, than plus some AFR heads ($2200), valvetrain ($1000) 90/90 portmatched ($1250), and all the other junk plus install, tune and what not, it seems to come out around $12 grand ish every time. I can get my shortblock bedone with new valvetrain for $6 grand. What do you suggest?

either spend the extra money or stay stock cubes. It's not gonna be cheap to go to anything > 400 cubes. cheapest route other than stock cubes is a longer stroke, stoock bore.

If you are going to go FI anyway, just change out your rods and pistons. Keep the stock crank. If you are going to get a forged crank, get one with a 4" stroke.

What grimes said. No sense going larger cubes if youre doing forced induction. Harlan pushed his stock crank over 1K HP. Just do the pistons and rods. Buy a used crank if need be.

You can go to a 383 without having to resleeve, 3.908 bore with a 4.00 stroke.
But if your running a turbo stay with the stock cubic inches and just run good parts. The turbo will make a bunch more torque and HP you won't need the extra inches.
A good forged rotating assembly will run you about $2800.00, plus balancing. If your going to run more than 6 or 8 lbs of boost I'd upgrade your pistons. You'll spend a bit more now and not have to worry about whether your pistons will hold up or not later, when you turn up the boost...
