So going with Jaberwaki's choice of plugs, I went to Advance to pick up a set of NGK TR55's. I get there and ask for them, and the guy behind the counter tries to tell me that the NGK's (not any specific type, just all of them) aren't good for Chevy's (or any American motor for that matter). Thinking its just a case of "Ma paw tole me that my tree-fiddy chebby don't take no NGK", I ignore it and politely ask for the NGK's. He gets them, and says as he's ringing me up, "Actually I heard from NGK that they weren't good in American cars."

I think he's just full of crap. Any other opinions?

 

well ummm yeah i have them they run good... I got them because alot of people on here use them and say its a good plug and and I can say they are right... I think he was just lying when he said that NGK told him, I mean think about it, why would NGK do that even if it was true they would still want to sell their plugs and if they didnt want to sell them then obiously they would stop producing them, but idk man I personally think that the tr55s are good for our cars, as long as they are stock or near stock and dont require a colder heat range

 

NGK is a division of Denso, who sells similar plugs under their own name as well. They are also the OEM supplier of the "Delco" plugs used by GM on (at the least) 2005 & later trucks with the LS-style V-8s. I don't know about current production, but the early plugs had "Denso" on the insulator, and "AC" on the steel body. GM chose them for durability and the lower required firing voltage due to the ultra-fine wire iridium electrode.

Its funny you said that, i had a guy at Advanced Auto tell me the same thing. I asked if he worked on cars, he said no i just heard that.

Whatever, i don't listen to the advice of any of those counter jockeys.

Because I just heard the same thing at Advance Auto.
They must be pushing something else.
I bought NGK TR55 they work great.

 

Not all counter people are ignorant.....just the ones they get from McDonald's, Toyota, Honda, Acura, Subaru, Mitsubishi, Mazda...ooops Im ranting!!

 

A lot of times they get comission on certain types of products, so they try to sway you to them.

 

Ive bee running these plugs for awhile now and have had no issues and have several friends who run them as well with nothing but good things to say. I think someone was trying to sell you another brand but wasnt able to!!
