Piston to Cylinder Wall clearance
What are you guys running for piston to cylinder wall clearance. Im building an Iron block 408 with Weisco pistons. Weisco recommends .004. I will be spraying a 250+ shot of nitrous and was wondering what you guys recommend.
Also how critical is it to have your block torque plate honed?

I did not have my block torque plate honed, but it was a used heat cycled block. My clearance was .005 with je pistons. The ring gaps are what you need to set for nitrous use. The cylinder wall clearance should be .004 if that is what they recommend. It shouldn't change based on application.

I concur. The recommended clearance piston to wall shouldn't change. Use the manufacturer's spec. the ring gaps on the other hand are open to discretion. BIG shot of nitrous I run around .024 top ring and .018-.020 on the bottom ring. this is 250+ direct port. On smaller nitrous apps I would run .022 top and .018 bottom ring.

I wouldn't consider torque plate honing critical. Your engine will run just fine without doing it but it should seal up better initially and keep it's ring seal longer if it's done. How much longer and better is probably impossible to put a number on. But....if you're spraying 250+, I'm betting you realize the engine won't last forever anyways. LOL
