I think I prevented a disaster in my engine Pulled the motor out this weekend for a freshen up. Cars been running good but seemed to be getting a bit tired. Its been raced hard for 2 years without a cleanup.
Anyhow, pulled the oil pan and started pulling rod caps. I found a few bearing rotated
The tab of the lower bearing half was rotated such that it was in the groove the connecting rod. Bearing was somewhat scarred up too with a bit of copper showing up in places.
I was going to make a few more passes the day before but decided not too....wonder how close I was to totally spinning the bearing??
I guess 7400 rpm is pretty tough on rod bearings

that bottom end had 2 years on the bearings (2 race seasons). I put it together with clevite bearings (.0020 clearance) on the rods and FM main bearings.
that was the original crank with ~40000 on the clock.
I'm replacing the crank with a lowmile takeout from valvegod.

Fireball, you are one of the few people I have seen that had the TRex and a quality set of heads. Did you ever dyno the setup? I was curious how the cam profile would mate with a set of decent flowing heads.

oops...also found a cracked #7 ringland.
has anyone seen the ringland crack in 2 places between the 1st and 2nd rings and not damage the crown???
