I've done a few Corvette C5 clutch swaps in about 2.5 hours. They are tough at first, then easy after the virgin attempt.

Louis cheats, he has other people helping him

I'm very impressed with a lot of you guys' work, I truly think we have one of the best groupings of talented automotive folks in the world right here on this site. And the newbs, well they just keep getting better every day. Helps to rub elbows When I first got into the LS1 scene, I had only done the "basics" on my cars - clutch change, bolt on stuff. It was the community here that really gave me the drive to press further.

If you guys can indeed do all of this, how come the sponsors when they charge labor dont come close to those times, and im sure they work on more fbods than anyone, thats always amazed me. They will charge 1hr 30 mins to put an ls6 intake on, but it takes everyone i know on avg about 30-45mins and im sure you guys can beat that

There's overhead time with a shop.. You're being billed for the complete job, start to finish, as it takes the technician to do it. Some other shops bill "book hours" which is what GM has determined it should take an average technician to perform a job properly. Then, all the GOOD shops will spend extra time re-checking EVERYTHING before giving it back to the customer. You pay for all of that time, because you also expect them to stand behind their work.

Good case in point. My last cam swap on my personal car. I didn't spend any time doing paperwork, talking to the customer (would look kinda funny with me talking to myself, but whatever ), scheduling the car, pulling it into the bay, performing the actual swap, double checking the work, testing the car, etc. I performed ONLY the install itself in a bit over an hour and a half, without doing ANY of the other things a shop would have done. I would bet the shop time for a pro technician would be about the same, if not faster -- but they'll then go on to spend time doing the rest of the job. That's what you're paying for, and I also take that time and bill you for it if you take your car to me.

During my vacation, working only ten or twelve hours per day, I did my first LS1 heads and cam swap, including replacing the timing chain and oil pump o-ring, and cleaned all piston tops, all by myself, in only two weeks. But I’m not as meticulous as some guys.

I even installed new rear end gears in less than a month.
