hey everybody,
heres what i'm considering to do for my winter project, I want to toss in the MS3 cam into my ws6. I've never done any kind of internal work before, especially on an LS1. I think if I take my time and spend a few days to do it, I should be good.
I have a couple of questions though.
I'm used to old school, simple motors, where you can do a cam swap for pretty cheap. This cam swap is looking to cost close to $1000? Does this seem worth it?
Also, since it'll be a winter project, I wont beable to drive the car, so I wont really know if everything is working right. I'll just beable to let it run in the garage, and then it'll sit for a few months. I usually start the cars once a month or so to keep things oiled. Will it be okay to put in that new cam but not beable to drive it?
Gimmie some feedback guys, I haven't bought anything yet, so no harm done!

www.ls1howto.com is a great reference.
Having the entire winter to work on it is a blessing. A cam swap is something anyone can do.
By the way, the ls1 is pretty damn simple!

Agreed with SouthFl.02.SS - cam swap is easy, and www.ls1howto.com has a great step-by-step writeup with pictures. You can't go wrong as long as you know how to turn the wrench. Take time, be calm, don't get frustrated, and you'll be good to go.
ls1tech crowd is here to answer any question if you get stuck (you won't though)
you'll save a lot of $$$$ that way

yeah it is really easier then most people think. And you should know if everything is good by starting it up in the garage.Oh and by the way frequent winter starting is doing more harm then good to your engine.Back when carbs were still being used it was good to keep the carb clean by starting a winterized car up every month or so.All your doing is putting moisture in your oil that cant get hot enough to boil off by idleing in the garage.Simply change the oil and add some stabil to the gas tank and let it sit without starting it.

yeah the gears are stock, but i'm probably going to be needing a new rear end down the line, like a 12 bolt, since I'll have the nitrous ontop of the cam
it would probably make more sense to get the cam now, than a smaller one for the gears that i'm going to destroy anyways? lol
