Default Cam questions?

I have a couple questions. 1st off when it comes to a cam ie trex cam, and it says you need like 4.10's or greater on manuel cars, and a 4000+ converter onautos. and you cant use like 1.8 rockers, I was wondering why?

I also would like to know does the converter matter, for ex if it said 3500+ could I use a stall @ 3000. Also if it said 4.10 or greater could I use my 3.73's?

i think with 1.8 rockers the ptv clearance would be too tight if not negative (valve is in the piston) you can use a smaller stall, butthe car will be a total DOG down low. my g5x3 on a stock stall was funny, it pulled so hard up top people thought i was spraying at about 4000 but it was just the cam doing what it is supposed to.

You say it will be really slow down low, if I put a cam on would I loose power @ the bottom, or would it just stay the same and I would gain a lot at the mid and top?

if its not set up right you can loose power down low. its kind of hard to tell as most dynos don't have charts for under 2500rpms.

Man, T-Rex is way too big for what you want.
Look at something in the 228/232 range

Also for the other question, how come it says use 4.10 gears or higher, can you use 3.73's on a cam that says use 4.10 or higher?

Because a cam like T-Rex has a powerband of 4000rpm>7400 rpm
So 4:10's are required to reach that powerband quicker and not be a dog in low rpms.
