Default oil problem

hey guys iam having some probelms with my oil pressure, iam driving along then all of a sudden the gage starts going crazy all over the place. It doesnt just move down or up it goes crazy it flutters back and forth with super human speed . I was worried about the oil pump but now iam thinking there is no way the oil pressure in the engine could fluctuate that much so fast. SO iam thinking that its probably the oil sending unit. Has anyone else had this problem? and what did it turn out to be??
