I am in the process of changing some parts out and putting new in but I don’t have all the time in the world to do it at once. I have been doing it in steps. I also have no garage and the car sits outside. So I go to take a look at it today and find this...

Water some how got into the engine bay and was sitting on top of the pistons. With a little elbow grease I am able to get the rust out of the sleeves but does anyone think there could possibly be damage that my eye can’t see? Stinks to have the car sit out in the elements. Needless to say I am shopping for a car cover.

 

Good lord ! How long has the car been sitting outside without heads? That is a tough call, depending on how long it has been sitting and the ring composition...your rings might be trashed as well. You may need to take it all apart, hone it and install new rings.

 

Try some scotchbrite and see if that comes off without leaving any pits in the cyl walls, then once you get the rust off and if it looks ok, squirt some WD 40 in there, that should help keep it from rusting

 

Its been outside with out head for about 2 month. I was able to clean areas off with a scotchbrite pad and it was still smooth. I just hope its only in the visable areas.

 

i would squirt some tranny fluid in them ...it will free the cyl. from the sleve and keep it from rusting..but i would do what they said above..pull the pistons..
