Default Tapping

I have a 98 SS with a tapping noise between 2000 and 3000 rpm similar to a sewing machine. Checked for proper torque on rocker arms and made no difference, so Im thinking its possibly a lifter. If so I wanna upgrade with a cam lifters roller rockers headers and exhaust. Looking for any and all suggestions, as far as what cam etc. to buy to remedy the tapping plus gain some horsepower. Thanks

What are you looking for in a cam? you need to be more specific with what you want out of it.

Basically lookin for low end and driveability, I dont plan on puttin the car on the strip much. I just thought if the problem lies in the valve train I would upgrade. What would you reccomend on the bent pushrod issue? I did have them out, but maybe I have to re-examine. Thanks for your replies I do appreciate any input.
