I am helping out someone I know here; there have a 99 vette that is bone stock with about 95k miles on it. The motor has developed a 'knocking' sound. he said the dealer found metal shavings in the oil. I am thinking that it is a spun bearing and that it needs to be repalced or rebuilt. I don't think that he is interested in a forged setup since I will be putting a cam and boltons on the car and that will be it for mods. what is the best way to deal with this issue, and get it replaced or repaired. I have never dealt with bottom ends on these cars.

If he has another car to drive in the meantime and there is a good machine shop with ls1 experience nearby, i would tell him to pull the shortblock and get it rebuilt locally. Even if he wants to stay with stock rods and pistons tell him to at least get upgraded rod bolts. Maybe get the heads milled while they're off.
