I run a 220/220 581/581 110lsa 106icl on 5.3l heads milled to a 55.4cc chamber. It doesn't hit the valves, but probably doesn't have very much clearance.

That's the cam I just put in. Everybody's got me scared of PTV clearance now with my heads milled .030. I've got checker springs on the way, and I need to sort out my pushrod length and rocker arm height 1st. Since so many of you recommended that cam, is their anyone here that has run the cam with no PTV issues?

Finally got back to checking geometry
Here is what I came up with:
Prod Length (")/Valve Swipe(I->E)/Pre-load (turns)/Rocker Shim I (")
7.300 / 1/3-1/2 / 1/2+ / 0
7.338 / 1/3-1/2 / 1/2 / .031
7.375 / 1/4-3/4 / 1-1/2 / .031
7.375 / 3/10-7/10 / 1/2 / .062 (Exhaust)
7.375 / 3/10-7/10 / 1/2 / .062 (Intake)
7.375 / OK / 7/8 / .046
So, I think I may pick up an .064" shim to get a little less than 1/2 turn of preload, and then move on to checking my PTV clearance. Just thought I would share my results. The swipe is rough and hard to nail exactly.
I also measured the travel of an 8mm x 1.25 bolt. One turn of the bolt equates to ~.059". This does not necessarily mean that is what the turn of the bolt is the same as the preload on the lifter....but it should be close.

I see what you are saying, but that .060-.080 is on a stock motor with the intent of not being opened up for 100k miles to replace and adjust things. I've read so many posts where .015-.030 seems fine. What about the info on LS1howto for the YT install? "Every car will be different so make sure you check this! You want the smallest number of turns you can get, as long as you have at least 1/4 or 1/2 full turn of preload in there once you are all setup."
I'm not trying to disagree, just trying to find why you say so much pre-load?

I would set my pre-load hot just to be sure.
Depends what kinda oil grade you'll be using also.

Cool, that makes sense also. Well, I have an oil cooler on the car which keeps my oil temps in check. I also drilled holes in the lifter trays to reduce the foam and allow them to drain properly. I'm running M1 5W30. I can't check it hot at this point as I am getting the geometry correct to verify PTV clearance, then I need to put the rest of the motor back together before I can start it and run it.

Well if you go with a forged 346, DS1C and comp cam 224 581 on a 114 LSA the torque is there I know I got 645 lbs of it, and at 3k I got 350 and then it pulls like rape@ ape, and it is just incredible to have this much power always ready when you decide to stomp the blowin Stang
