Default Is it possible to replace the front cam bearing w/o pulling the motor??

Does anyone know if it is possible to replace just the front cam bearing w/o pulling the motor out of the car? I was doing a cam swap this weekend (my first). When I pulled out the old one I could see that the front bearing does not look good. I don’t know yet if the others are OK but I am trying to borrow an endoscope to check them out. If it’s only the front bearing I would like to avoid pulling the engine if at all possible.

yes you can, if you can get the old one out of the block ,if you knock it inwerd. Just watch for cam bearing shavings coming off and dropping down in the motor

How do you get the rear one out without pulling the motor? I thought the rear cover had to come off to do this.

Turns out it doesn’t matter. I bought a borescope which arrived on Friday. All five cam bearings have the same problem – they are worn down to the brass in roughly the 4:30 and 7:30 positions (directly opposite the pushrod ends). The wear is considerably worse on the driver’s side.

So, the whole engine has come out anyway. Beyond that, I haven’t completely decided what I’m going to do yet after I pull it.
