Is it possible to replace the front cam bearing w/o pulling the motor?? Does anyone know if it is possible to replace just the front cam bearing w/o pulling the motor out of the car? I was doing a cam swap this weekend (my first). When I pulled out the old one I could see that the front bearing does not look good. I don’t know yet if the others are OK but I am trying to borrow an endoscope to check them out. If it’s only the front bearing I would like to avoid pulling the engine if at all possible.

Turns out it doesn’t matter. I bought a borescope which arrived on Friday. All five cam bearings have the same problem – they are worn down to the brass in roughly the 4:30 and 7:30 positions (directly opposite the pushrod ends). The wear is considerably worse on the driver’s side.
So, the whole engine has come out anyway. Beyond that, I haven’t completely decided what I’m going to do yet after I pull it.
