Default 5.3 max bore dia. please help

hey i have a complete 5.3 and a friend of mine has all the internals for a ls1 minus the block can i bore my 5.3 block to ls1 specs and use his parts to make a budget ls1.

You can do that, but the expense of the machine work would be the same price as a used 5.7L alluminum block. Why not stay with alluminum and have a 100lbs less on the nose of the car.

what kind of machine work would be needed other than the bore of the cylinders.

Sonic test to make sure there is enoiugh meat to bore as much as you want. Deck the block. Check main straightness and possiblly do a line hone on the mains. Remove the old cam bearings and install new ones.
