Question tapping

hey guys i was wondering if you can help me. my car seems to have a light tapping when it sits over night.if i let the car warm up for 5 or so minutes it goes away or if its cold and i take off right away it will stay for about 30sec to 1 minute then goes away
any ideas?
it sounds like its coming from the drivers side valve cover
could it be oil leaking off the valve train and has to pump back up?
i use mobil 1 5w30 synthetic

thanks,shaun

The infamous "piston slap" maybe. Most LS engines do it.

well is it harmful? the car is strong as hell and it dont skip or miss. i was thinking it was a loose rocker or a bent pushrod but i figured i would notice it.
my friend had 3 ta's 1 01 and 2 02's all ws6's and they all had that ticking all the time.my engine only has about 35k on it and is all stock except for the mods in my sig

thanks

From what I have researched the piston slap does not cause any damage in any way. It was just the way the engine was designed I beleive. As long as it doesnt get louder when you rev it or drive off you should be fine.

Taking the valvecovers off and pushrods out is FREE. I had a #7 cylinder intake pushrod that had about a 30* bend in it. Car ran like a champ, but sounded like someone was prospecting in a gold mine under the hood.

Do you still have the AIR system on your car? The little valves right before the exhaust manifolds are notorious for making noise. Perfect reason to delete that rediculous system
