Post knock sensor

My service engine soon light is on and I checked it at a local auto parts store. They said that it was the knock sensor. Does this mean I have to change the knock sensor or is it picking up a noise. Some have told me to change it,someone else said it could be a rod, and someone else said that it could be the wiring. I just bought this 01 ws6 and I want to make sure it is nothing big before my warranty is over. Everybody charges me for each thing and I don't know what to do. I would really appreciate the help.
thanks, junior83

Well if I had to decide between changing the knock sensor or tearing down the motor to check the rods, I think I'd try swapping out the knock sensor first.

Did the local auto parts store happen to give you the exact code that was thrown? If you had that available, it would be very helpful for diagnosis.

I'm probably going to try that first. I hope this fixes my problem. Thanks for the advice.

I didnt have my ses light come on but my car was doggy so I scaned it and the knock sensor was retarding timing in 2 places thru the rpm band. on mine it turned out to be the mass air sensor. the engine was going lean then detonating. the thing feels way stronger now with a new mass.
