Default Long in the Tooth

Ok guys want your opinion on a cam install.I have an 01 m6 z with 48000+ on the clock. When do you think it becomes a mute point to add any internal parts .In otherwords is this millage "long in the tooth" or should I wait till a total rebuild?I dont drive it during the week anymore inlight I recieved a company truck so the miles will be limited. Thanks for any response.

you are perfectly fine to do a cam install or anything else you might want to do for that point. 48,000 miles is nothing! I finally did my cam install at 73,000 and i know of quite a few people on here that have done cam installs with well over 100,000 miles. I'm sure they will chime in!

It doesn't matter how many miles you have on the motor, what matters is if that motor is healthy.
My advice before major internal mod is to do a compresssion and leakdown test to know the status of your motor. Based on the results, you then have a clear picture of how to proceed.

I had 96000 miles when cam was installed. Just replaced the timing chain, springs, retainers and pushrods. Its still running good after 10k miles.

hotcam went in my car at about 102,000miles, tsp 231/237 in at around 124,000miles, and my current cam(in sig) went in at about 130,000miles. i think you will be just fine to mod your car with 40K(+/-) miles.
