Some pics. The old ls1 is obviously the dirty one.The ls2 has bigger holes and is notched like others have said.It does look thicker where it sits on the lifter.

Someone was going to post pics!

The only reason I am interested is that some people have had issues with lifters turning in the retainers and causing a mess in the engine. Since they are relatively close in price it would be interesting to know if one is more prone to failing!
These are all the same reasons I was curious as well.

Whiterhino,

The photo's are good, but can we get some bigger versions of the photo's by e-mail so we can blow them up?

Is there any thickness difference or possibly does it appear to be a different material?

Thanks for posting the photo's by the way

Thanks for the photo's. I attached one of yours with some questions. It looks like some of the dimensions of the cutouts have changed that would result in a strengthening of the LS2 over the LS1. Hard to tell though.

I agree. They just guide the lifter, don't support it. Just don't put in a batch #10 tray from 01 like I had. that one was cast with one lifter on about a 5-degree rotation....not good. I drilled out my new LS2 trays a bit to facilitate oil drain and eliminate some foaming. I combined this with my timing chain damper as some "extra safety" mods with my new buildup.

To answer the ?'s on the pic. They are the same thicknesses thru out.The only difference between the two are;the ls2 has the recesses and the ls2 ones have a bigger whole for the push rod.Other then that there is no difference.

I only bought the ls2's because they were the most updated version.I'm sure they work exactly the same.

Thanks for taking the time to take photo's and answer questions. Which Cranes are those you are putting in? What springs/cam setup?

No problem. They're the Crane accelerated 1.8's.I'm going to use them with the Hotcam.I got a new set of heads with the Patriot duals and didnt want to tear the front down.Even though I'm going to probably wish I did!I just want to get over 400 at the wheels and I should get it now.

To answer another guys question. You'll be fine with either retainer. There's no advantage going to the ls2's that I can tell.I would buy what ever you get the best deal on.
