Head Install tips
I'm going to be doing a head install soon too and one thing I'm going to try is hooking up a shop vac to the water pump so *maybe* I won't get a bunch of coolant in the bolt holes.
Ok i just read that whole page about the LS1 head swap. I think i will be trying this sometime soon. The only thing i dont really get is why they un-bolt the y-pipe? I mean the headers are still going to be there in the way so why take the trouble to unbolt them from the y-pipe?

You will need to move the headers around to get to the bottom head bolts. So you need them to be lose.

Just know that you need a wrench to fit the power steering pump. Otherwise you will spend an hour trying to get that bolt off like I did. Also if possible take the headers off, or at least move them down a good it for clearance. Another thing that made everything difficult. Without those two problems I would have literally done it in half the time. And saved myself a lot of frustration. I mean A LOT!!

i believe there to be a bracket on the passenger side head..some of that **** was overcooking my grits so i left it off..just like ls1howto said...the hard part for me was breaking one of those bolts free back there...but, yeah remember bout those ground wires.

not bad somehow, gettin em on wasn't too bad at all actually....i thought it was gonna be a pita too....well it felt like a bolt on one of the back of the stock heads for me was torqued to like 5 thousand foot pounds lol..i think my left arm is weak.
