Default Need Help!

I looked an I hope this is the right forum

A buddy of mine is building a 68' swb chevy truck. He's bought a LS1 motor and 4l60e tranny out of a 99' ss with we think 40k miles. He wants to go with a cam but, doesn't want anything radical. My question is, with the weight of the truck will he need a higher than stock stall and will the pcm need to be tuned. Also should he replace the springs, pushrods,retainers and oil pump while its out of the truck.
let me know your opinion!

Always replace the springs and pushrods when replacing a cam. The retainers can probably be reused but I would at least replace them with steel aftermarket if not TI.
As for the oil pump I would just due to the mileage of the motor its cheap insurance.
