Default HELP! Where the heck is my oil going...?

I have to add about one quart between each oil change to keep the oil level in the good range. I don't get any blue smoke either at start up or at any point while driving, whether at idle or WOT in any gear. The tail pipes are often sooty and the exhaust smells like the car is running rich.

The engine only has 39k miles on it!! I've had it since 33k miles and I've put all of my 6k miles on it in a little over only 2 months.

It's not leaking. There are not wet spots anywhere on the engine. I had the transmission off about 3k miles ago and the clutch was clean - the rear main isn't leaking. There are no puddles underneath it (except the occasional drop from the seeping pinion seal on the 10-bolt).

It has to be burning it. But then, why no blue smoke? And how could this happen to an engine so young?

I'd pull the plugs and have a look-see but I'm scared of what I might find and don't want to spend all weekend cussing and cutting my fingers while pulling the rear plugs.

Is my engine going bad already? I don't care if it goes bad, that would give me and excuse to swap it for a stroker motor, just not now! I'm trying to buy a house!

Check your intake bro. It is probably your PCV system crapping out. You might be a good candidate for a catch can. It will tell you if that is the problem for 40$ off ebay. Worth a shot.

TheBlur made a post on it if I can find it i will post it in here. It will catch oil that is being sprayed into the intake and falling back down into the heads thefore makes it look like you have a bad leak. You did say that you checked the rear seal right?

Yeah, there's nothing coming from the rear seal. I made sure to check that one. I had a '68 Coupe DeVille before this that would blow a quart every 300 miles out the rear main until that was fixed. I made doubly sure the rear main is good.
