Is Gm the best place to get one or is there a cheaper sponsor?

usually gm is not the best, they have incredible mark ups

i can get everything at cost, which is cheaper than sdpc

but if i get a new gm block it will still need to be bored over (4.030 for a 370ci)

Yes............... and TRUST ME.....its worth buying a NEW block.... if you really get everything @ cost, than this should be a no brainer..... i dont understand the purpose of this thread if you can get this at cost........ either way..... if your building a 408, start with a new block......trying to find a used one (thats actually useable) IS A HEADACHE....... ask me how I know.

dont skimp on the machine work either: you WILL regret it if you do....... Hell i think i payed something like 1300 for all the machine work on my 408.

good luck on your 408 build..... im sure you already know that building a motor isn't cheap.

im going with a 370ci all bore with a stock crank and forged rods and pistons, with the machine work im going to have about $1500 in the short block (best friends dad is the best machinest around here)

even more the reason to spend an extra $1000 on a eagle 4" crank and make it a 408
