Default 5.3 liter question

I have a few questions about the 5.3 liter truck ls1 engines. I'm building a v8 rx7 and can't afforedd a 5.7 ls1 and i dont want to mess with the old lt1's and want to use a 5.3 instead since their a lot cheeper. So I wanted to know if the 5.7 liter ls1 aftermarket cams/heads/headers would work with the 5.3? or are there separate after market cams/heads/ect.. for the 5.3? I'm not fimilar with the 5.3, but very interested on the price since I can afford it and there fairly new. Thanks for any help.

what year 5.3 block are we talking about? the 03 (i believe) and up 5.3 blocks are aluminum and can be bore out to the 3.898 bore of the 5.7 ls1. at any rate all genIII parts are interchangable sans specific bore size pistons.

Eh, I don't think the aluminum block can be bored that far out without resleeving but I might be incorrect. I know the cast iron blocks can normally be taken to 3.898 on the bore.

Would you be using LS1/LS6 intake etc? I've got an 02 LS1 and an 03 5.3 in a Suburban and the 5.3 has the Vortec intake and appears to have smaller coil packs.

Oh, and it's a cast iron block.

Everything should interchange fine.. i'll be doing the same thing with my next build up..

You should be able to bore the block to 3.898 (stock LS1 bore) and if you wish you could reuse the crank and the rods.

nope, i was right. the aluminum 5.3 debuted in 03 and was option for the 2003 TrailBlazer EXT and Envoy.

-kossuth: the liners in the aluminum 5.3 are thicker, was GM's way of essentially using the same block and using the bore size (along with the stroke) to differentiate application. i've never heard of the iron blocks going .119 thou over.

THat's good to know about the aluminum motor. The cast iron block can go to 3.898. http://forum.ls1truck.com/index.php?showtopic=4867&hl= http://forum.ls1truck.com/index.php?showtopic=5382&hl= It's been done (even though I have not done it) It has been done.

I thought the Trailblazer did have the 5.3 option until later on.

Well, I stand corrected then.
