Default Valve Springs W/ TR220

Im going to be gettin a TR220 .551 112 cam here pretty soon for my 5.3 ECSB truck. I was just wondering if the ls6 valve springs would be ok with this cam and how about the stock push rods? or should i just save up for the comp 918's and better pushrods? what kind of pushrods would ok for this?

I have the LS6 springs and stock push rods on a comp cams 224 228 581 581 115 lsa seems to be fine. I’ve had them in for 2 years now and have had no problems. I think the max lift for ls6 springs is 558. I plan on changing them though at the end of this year just to be safe. Just a suggestion why not go with ls2 or ls7 springs i heard they are supposed to be able the hand more.

I've been running a TR220 cam for almost two years now with 918s and hardened pushrods (about 8k miles). Everything has run perfect so far and I don't expect any problems.

The one thing to remember about Thunder Racing cams is that most have an aggressive ramp rate and the TR220 falls into this category. Because of this I would go with the 918s instead of the LS6 springs. Better safe than sorry. Another option would be to go with double valve springs (I think 921s) but I would say 918s at least.

You will get differing opinions on the pushrods. I personally went with the stock length chrome-moly pushrods. My opinion is if you have the opportunity to upgrade your stock valvetrain components then go for it.

If you plan on increasing you rpm shift points and rev limiter to take advantage of the increased HP output of your new cam, you need at the very least 918 springs and hardened pushrods. I've been using the comp cam pushrods and the Patriot Gold Springs (good for .650 lift) for 2.5 years now with no problems.

Good luck,

Al

Same as above. TR cams have agressive lobes so 918's and hardened pr's are a very good idea. You can get a deal on them, just look around. 918's are not as expensive as they used to be. Call Texas Speed and haggle with them. They'll work with ya. Good guys there.
