just put my engine in my car, built a 383 stroker with patriot ls6 style heads. i am gettting alot of noise, a loud ticking. i have new lifters and hardened pushrods but i still have my stock rockers in the car. The car has 231/237 595 lift cam. Is it possible the rockers could hit valve covers or dose anyone have any other ideas. Please help.
The rockers won't hit the valve covers with that cam. Maybe a loose rocker? Does it sound like a single tick or all of the valves ticking? Is it possible that your pushrods are too short? I know that if you pinch the o-ring installing the oil pump it will cause oiling issues that can cause lifter noise. Just trying to throw some ideas out there for you.
let us know what you find.

i pulled the valve cover and looked at the rockers, im not positive if it is getting enough oil when it is running but there was plenty of oil on everything. some of the rockers seem to have a little play in them. Is this normal and if so how much should they have. Could that be causing my noise.
haha, no. Rockers should be tight and have absolutly zero play. If there is play in the rockers you need to fix that asap. If you followed ls1howto.com's instructions I don't see how they could have play unless you just forgot some.

Too short of pushrods, and your geometry is likely off.
It's not the lift, it's the base circle of the cam and the whether the heads have been milled any. Also if you choose a different degree head you will need to change as well.
